Why Volunteer?
Heather Khym shares her thoughts on volunteering and the ways it gives us the meaningful lives God intended us to lead.
I think of what Jesus said in the Bible, “if you lose your life, you will find it.” I think a lot of people are struggling with depression and anxiety and similar things, because they don’t have enough meaning in their lives.
We find meaning in the way that God has made us and called us to live, which is to give of ourselves, to make a sacrifice of ourselves for another.
I think a lot of people are getting lost in small stories, and they are not giving of themselves in a way that is meaningful, in the way that would matter to them.
I love the work that I do. It’s hard, and I’m traveling, and I’m tired - these are just my small things - but I look at my own life and I think: I love what I do. It has so much meaning, and that it is worth everything. It is worth all of the sacrifices.
I think that the bigger the stakes are, the more meaning that we find. That is truly living life to the full as Jesus promises.
There are many different ways you can help – by donating your time, money, skills and prayers.
