Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow 

President of the Board of Directors

Magnus has lived in Argyll, Scotland, since the age of nine and began his career as a fish farmer. However, when the Bosnian conflict was making headlines in the early 1990s, Magnus and his brother Fergus were moved to help.

He was named one of 2010's ‘Top 10 Heroes’ by broadcaster CNN and received an OBE in the 2011 New Year’s Honours list. Magnus has also been awarded Honorary Degrees by the University of Stirling, Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Hull.

Before Mary’s Meals, Magnus played shinty for Glenorchy Camanachd Club and was capped four times by Scotland at senior international level.

Magnus is married to Julie, a trained nurse from Inverness. She became his co-driver on some of the first deliveries of aid to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1993, and has been devoted to the charity ever since. They live in Dalmally with their seven children.

Terry Bonet

Executive Director

Terry Bonet joined Mary’s Meals USA as Executive Director in 2023..

She brings 20 years of experience in multiple areas including fundraising, development and marketing. She will support the outreach and engagement efforts of Mary’s Meals USA.

Terry is not new to Mary’s Meals as she moves from the position of Director of Growth Strategic Operations for Mary’s Meals International into the role of executive director. 

In joining Mary’s Meals USA, Terry shares, “I am honored and humbled to lead this incredible team. This mission is so important, and I cannot wait to see what this next chapter will bring.”

She will lead the strategic growth and development of Mary’s Meals USA providing vision, guidance and support.  

Terry holds a BA in business management and leadership from Warren National University and lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jacob Allen 

Board Chair

Now a Director with The Cicero Group, Jacob has spent his career working with non-profit organisations and businesses around the world. His strengths are in strategy, performance management, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

Jacob designed and managed the M&E system for The Goldman Sachs Foundation’s 10,000 Women initiative, and developed the strategy for their 10,000 Small Businesses initiative. He has also managed microfinance and microenterprise development initiatives in Latin America.

With such a depth of experience in non-profit management, it’s great to hear Jacob say of Mary’s Meals: “I’ve never seen an NGO that so effectively and efficiently combines such a simple solution with such an intrinsic need.”

Along with the rest of the Mary’s Meals family, he believes that everyone can make a lasting difference to children in the most desperate of circumstances.

Jacob is married with six children and loves to spend his spare time running, hiking, and skiing on snow or water - depending on the weather!

Daniel B. Hébert

Board Member

Daniel B. Hébert is the Co-Founder & COO of Bernstein Equity Partners LLC. He has held managing director positions at Sandler O’Neill, North Sea Partners, LLC and Tri-Artisan Partners. Daniel began his career in the corporate Finance Department at Morgan Stanley in 1982. He holds a BA from Acadia University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. 

He was a former member of the Executive Committee of Continuum Health Partners, which, prior to its merger with Mt. Sinai, was a non-profit hospital health system in New York City with an annual operating budget of $2.1 billion. His current board affiliations include Chairman of Jet Ready, LLC a privately held FAR 135 aircraft charter company based in Florida. 

Daniel resides in New York City.

Susana Mendoza

Susana Mendoza is a Managing Director in the Equity Capital Markets group at TD Securities. She leads the firm’s equity private placement efforts, developing growth strategies and advising clients across North America on private capital transactions. Additionally, she is Co-head of TD Securities’ Latinos/Hispanics United Committee, a newly formed Minorities in Leadership Employee Resource Group. Susana brings extensive financial knowledge and partnership-building experience to the board. Susana joined the board in in October of 2022.

Amanda Bowman

Amanda Bowman is the Director of Church Activation at World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization that works to address poverty and injustice. She manages strategic planning, annual revenue and partnerships. Amanda brings her passion as a philanthropist, and considerable experience in relationship-building and fundraising to the Mary’s Meals USA board. Amanda joined the board in in October of 2022.

Hazel Cobb

Hazel Cobb is an accomplished marketing leader with over 20 years of experience in both non-profit and for-profit sectors. With a keen focus on insights-driven strategies, she has consistently driven growth and impact throughout her career.

Currently serving as a Lead Product Marketer at BlackLine, a prominent B2B software company specializing in financial automation, Hazel spearheads the global strategy for the company's flagship product portfolio, which contributes significantly to the company's annual revenue. Her role entails crafting comprehensive marketing campaigns and cross-channel activities to enhance customer engagement and drive upsell opportunities. 

Prior to her tenure at BlackLine, Hazel dedicated over a decade to managing integrated marketing initiatives for renowned non-profits such as The American Heart Association, World Vision and UNICEF. In these roles, she successfully orchestrated campaigns that secured tens of millions of dollars in net-new and recurring private donor funding. Notably, under her leadership, aided brand awareness increased by 3 points within a year, while revenue growth among new donors saw a 4% uptick. Managing a department of high performers, Hazel ensured alignment with organizational goals while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Hazel's expertise extends beyond traditional marketing realms, encompassing public relations management, brand risk mitigation, external communications, content marketing, and influencer relationship management. Her holistic approach to marketing has consistently yielded tangible results, earning her recognition as a dynamic and strategic leader in the industry.

Driven by a passion for mission-driven work and a desire to make a meaningful impact, Hazel is enthusiastic about serving on the Mary’s Meals board, where she may significantly contribute to the organization's mission of serving vulnerable communities. Her commitment to driving positive change through innovative marketing strategies makes her an invaluable asset to any organization seeking to make a difference on a global scale.

Mark Menking

Mark is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Hielan Capital.  The Hielan Group includes investments in office and retail real estate as well as the largest franchisee of Chili's Grill & Bar restaurants with 43 locations.  

Mark splits his time between his home in the Dallas/Ft Worth, TX area and his home in Scotland. He and his wife Beth have 5 children and 15 grandchildren.

Lawrence Lubrano

Lawrence is currently the Director of Business Management at GXO (formally PFSweb) and an Adjunct Professor at TCU. Lawrence has a strong background in financial management and a variety of executive roles with a global scope. He comes with proven experience in helping businesses scale in order to support growing demand. 

Lawrence and his wife Nynochka live in the Dallas/Ft Worth, TX area and have four children.

Greg Burke

Greg Burke has worked for 40 years in journalism and public relations. The former spokesman for Pope Francis, he also developed strategic communications for the Vatican and worked as Director of Communications at IESE Business School in Barcelona and Madrid.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Greg has spent most of his life abroad, primarily in Italy. He worked as a Rome-based correspondent  from 1994-2001 for Time Magazine, and from 2001-2012 for Fox News, covering news stories and conflicts from Afghanistan and Pakistan to South Africa. Greg was dispatched frequently to the Mideast, especially Israel and Lebanon, where he covered the entire war of 2006.

Greg received a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and a Master’s degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. He teaches communications at IESE Business School, specializing in public speaking and crisis communications. Greg is currently a Fellow at the Distinguished Careers Institute at Stanford.
