Haiti Emergency Response

What is the Situation in Haiti?
In 2010, a huge earthquake struck Haiti killing 300,000 people. Fifteen years on, the key threat the country faces is not from nature, but from extreme instability caused by gangs and escalating violence.
Daily shootings and killings dominate life in Haiti, with entire areas under gang rule. Schools suffer closures, businesses are paralyzed, and many essential services are inaccessible. Gangs have also disrupted food imports and distribution. As a result, the price of basic items has soared, exacerbating hunger among a population already devastated by unemployment.
As insecurity, violence, and deepening economic woes grip the country, the number of food-insecure people has tripled since 2016. According to the World Food Programme, 2 million people are facing emergency levels of hunger and nearly 277,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition.

Mary's Meals in Haiti
Mary’s Meals first started working in Haiti in 2006—working with three local partners—Caritas Hinche, Summits Education, and Bureau de Nutrition et Développement (BND).
Since then, the promise of a nutritious meal at school has drawn hundreds of thousands of Haitian children into the classroom, where they can focus on their education and find stability and hope of a brighter future.
We currently serve more than 175,000 children every school day in over 500 places of education, with support from local volunteers. With your support, we can reach many thousands more children waiting for our daily meals.
